Those are not always a good thing!
Yesterday evening Elliott and I went to a birthday party on the eastern outskirts of town. As we were leaving, I noticed a big brown cloud approaching. It was a haboob – also known as a dust storm. This is when the wind kicks up a mile-high storm of dust and sand from the desert. It can make driving very dangerous because visibility is severely reduced. I took this picture when we were at a stop light, almost home. The storm hit a few minutes later!
Then today when Evan went to adjust our hallway night light, he got quite the surprise:
